Step # 1: Creating the base

I used glue to cover my brows, this once sticking all of the hair upwards toward my forehead instead of with the organic grain for the scary voodoo doll makeup look. I used concealer to dab them and then dusted them with light, loose powder. I was hoping that brushing them upwards would make them vanish even more, but they only merged in with a sloppy appearance to get started with my voodoo doll Halloween makeup look.

Step # 2: Foundation and shading

After that, I applied foundation to my face and went crazy with my NYX contour palette. Starting with the voodoo face painting I darken everywhere around my forehead, the hollows of my cheeks, eye sockets, and collar bone with a makeup sponge still slightly moist from my liquid foundation and swiping it over my darkest contour color.

I then alternated between some of the lighter browns, dabbing different tones here and there to give my face and skin a rougher look. I dabbed white around my cheekbones, forehead, and center of my chest with my makeup sponge and I have to say I was pretty impressed by my voodoo face painting skills.

Step # 3 Sketching and Painting

I drew where my stitches and heart would go with a brown lip liner, making them somewhat wavy to create the effect of fabric sewn together to get the voodoo doll SFX makeup look.

I went over these lines with my darkest brown contour color, then darkened out one edge with a light brown, attentive to where my shades would emerge. I ran over these lines again with black face paint to add to my voodoo doll face paint, then used fine lines of white paint to highlight the unshadowed side.

Step # 4 Stitching

To deepen the color, I filled my heart with red paint and mixed it with a bit of black paint for my voodoo doll costume makeup. I also used white stitching markers to alternate between Xs and single diagonal lines on my black lines. I painted a half-circle of black paint around the ends of the stitches to give them a sewn look. I darkened them with a lighter brown contour powder at the borders to add depth to these white lines.

Step # 5 Final Touch

I applied liquid foundation to my lips and outlined them with a chocolate lip liner. I outlined where my button eyes would be with the liner and applied more dark shading to my eyelids. I drew where my stitches and heart would go with a brown lip liner, making them somewhat wavy to create the effect of cloth stitched together.

I went over these lines with my darkest brown contour color, then darkened one edge with a light brown, paying attention to where my shade should emerge. I ran over these lines again with black face paint, then used fine lines of white paint to highlight the unshadowed side.
